Portland State’s 49-acre downtown campus is located in the heart of one of America’s most vibrant centers of culture, business and technology. We are recognized throughout the world for programs like Urban Planning, Social Work, and Environmental Studies that directly engage the community, and aim our students towards the creation of a better, more sustainable world.

The Campus Public Safety Office provides emergency response, safety escorts, and patrol services to the campus 24/7. CPSO works with our university partners to ensure that Portland State University is a safe place. Our Services include Campus Police, Public Safety, Campus Dispatch, Access Control and Clery.

Public Safety Officers enable the Campus Public Safety to fulfill its stated goals and activities by performing related duties; to patrol the campus in order to report unlawful activities to commissioned law enforcement officials; to ensure University policies, rules, and regulations are adhered to; to respond to emergency situations that does not involve a report of potential or perceived violence; Render assistance; Often dealing with all types of persons under stressful conditions; Promote a positive image of the University as a whole, through an attitude of community services and outreach; Perform the assigned duties in a competent and professional manner.

This is a full time position, working a varied schedule Sunday to Saturday. The starting hourly rate for this position will be between $14.89/hour and $17.02/hour. Minimum qualifications for this position:
High School Diploma/GED.
Valid driver’s license.
Clean driving record.
No felony convictions in Oregon or any other jurisdiction.
No violation of any law involving controlled substances.
No violation of any law subject to denial as identified in OAR 259-008-0070.
Successful completion a pre-employment background check.
Complete Law Enforcement- Frontline National exam from National Testing Network.

Preferred qualifications:
Associate’s degree and/or 1-3 years of experience in a similar role, such as private security, park rangers, police officer, military.

Complete Law Enforcement- Frontline National exam from National Testing Network with a combined average of 85%.
