Descriptive Tasks/Responsibilities for Position

The Cambridge Police Department located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland is currently recruiting Act 120 certified officers as lateral transfers. (Regardless of prior employment) If you could please distribute the following information for the students you had / or currently have, it would be greatly appreciated.

Act 120 students who currently hold certification would be able to “fast track” or expedite employment with our agency by not being required to do a physical fitness testing battery or written exam. Certified students would only have to complete the following steps;

• Fill out the initial application at www.policeapp.com/cambridgemd
• Complete a background packet / investigation
• Polygraph Examination
• Doctor Physical
• Psychological Examination
• Fingerprints
• Drug Screening
• MPTC Comparative Compliance Training (Maryland Law & Procedure)

The Cambridge MD Police Department currently has eight positions available for qualified lateral transfers. We are a progressive department currently looking for highly motivated individuals as the city averages appx. 50k calls of service a year. Officers work twelve hour shifts in rotation of 0800hrs to 2000hrs and 2000hrs to 0800hrs. The break down equals to every other weekend off and only approximately 14 days a month of shift work. Additional Comp or Overtime is available as well.

Newly hired Officers are on probationary status for the first year at which time they will be able to test for the position of Patrolman First Class which incorporates a pay increase. The department is currently working on a take home vehicle program. The department pays for all trainings and equipment. Officers are currently wearing outer carriers.
The department off health, dental and eye benefits and LEOPS state retirement. Officers who reside in the city limits also receive a tax break.

Cambridge has approximately 12 ½ square miles of coverage, and Officers work in squads of 6+ officers including a Sergeant and Corporal on each shift. Units in the department include Honor Guard, K9, E.R.T (SWAT), Special Operations (Drug Unit), Community Policing and Criminal Investigation Division. Newly hired Officers are able to apply for a position in a specialized unit after one year.
