Descriptive Tasks/Responsibilities for Position

Academy Graduate Eligibility: To be eligible for consideration as a Police Officer - Academy Graduate, an applicant must:

Have successfully completed a State of California POST Basic Police Academy within the last 24 months and possess a valid State of California POST Basic Law Enforcement Academy Certificate.

Position Definition: Performs law enforcement and crime prevention work; controls traffic flow and enforces state and local traffic regulations; performs investigative work; participates in and provides support and assistance to special department crime prevention and enforcement programs and performs related work as required.

Requirements

Experience and Education Guidelines: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would most likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education: High school diploma or legal equivalent (GED) and completion of sixty (semester) college units or ninety (quarter) college units.

Experience: Successful completion of a State of California POST-certified Basic Police Academy within the last 24 months and possession of a valid State of California POST Basic Law Enforcement Academy Certificate.

Licenses/certifications/other requirements:
Must pass a comprehensive background check and be willing to work such hours and locations as are necessary to accomplish the job requirements; travel to attend meetings, seminars and conferences. Classification requires the possession and continued maintenance of a valid class "C" California driver's license.

Record must be free from any felony convictions, or any convictions that would bar the applicant from legally possessing a firearm.

Possession by the end of probationary period and maintenance of a State of California POST Basic Certificate.
