Descriptive Tasks/Responsibilities for Position

ESENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Enforces all federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Provides security at Hall of Justice and the Judicial Center.
Serves and makes due return of all criminal and civil process issued from the Courts.
Executes all orders and notices issued from the Courts.
Performs vehicle inspections.

EXAMPLES OF THE WORK
Makes arrests and issues citations for violations of federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Transportation of prisoners in the Hall of Justice, Judicial Center and statewide
Provides judicial and prisoner courtroom security.
Staffs security checkpoints for detection of dangerous instruments and deadly weapons.
Attends court and provides testimony on an as needed basis.
Responds to emergency situations.
Responds to traffic accidents on an as needed basis.
Issues traffic citations on an as needed basis.
Performs traffic control.
Performs crowd/riot control at public events.
Provides backup assistance to other law enforcement agencies.
Monitors, receives and transmits radio communications.
Performs computer data entry on an as needed basis.
Performs additional duties as assigned/needed on a temporary basis.
Performs related work as required.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High school graduation or its equivalent.
Must possess a valid Kentucky driver’s license.
Must pass and maintain firearms qualification.
Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Able to physically restrain persons in the course of law enforcement activities.
Withstands working outside in all extreme weather conditions.
Possesses sufficient speech and hearing necessary to communicate effectively with other individuals in person, on the phone and by radio.
Possesses visual acuity sufficient to operate sheriff’s vehicle by both day and night and to read and prepare written materials.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be eligible for certification as a Peace Officer in the State of Kentucky.
Must work a varied schedule.
Subject to 24-hour call for duty.
