BLACK LAW ENFORCEMENT HOSTS CONFERENCE AND AWARDS CEREMONIES
National Association of Black Law Enforcement Officers Holds Training Conference and Awards Presentations in White Plains, NY

The National Association of Black Law Enforcement Officers, Inc. will hold their 2021 Education and Training Conference, Board of Directors meetings, Awards and Scholarship Ceremonies from Wednesday, September 29th thru Friday, October 1st at the Sonesta White Plains Hotel in downtown White Plains, NY. The three-day series of events are being hosted by members of two local NABLEO chapters, Yonkers Guardians Association and Westchester-Rockland Guardians Association.
The conference, themed “Race & Justice: Finding Fair and Impartial Policing” will feature lectures and panel discussions designed to be of interest to both law enforcement personnel and their community partners and will cover such issues as “Eliminating Implicit Bias To Enhance Police-Community Engagement; An Anatomy of A Fatal Use of Force; Justice Reform: The Future of Policing After George Floyd; Karen-Weaponizing the Police-Profiling by Proxy; The Enemy Within: Extremism In Law Enforcement”, and other topics designed to provide law enforcement officers with greater tools, knowledge and skills for interacting with people, particularly in communities of color. As well, a special certification program in Mental Health First Aid will also be presented.
According to Lieut. Charles Wilson (Ret.), National Chairman, Wednesday evening will feature a special community event from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM, directed towards helping community members avoid and prevent police encounters from going bad. Titled “What To Do When Stopped By The Police”, the program is presented free of charge and is open to all members of the general public, media, and law enforcement.
Conference sessions will also feature their board of directors’ meetings where, among the topics being addressed will be the election of officers for the next two-year period. Board members represent more than 9,000 members from CA, CO, CT, IL, MA, MD, MI, MO, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, TN and VA.
Friday evening will feature a Scholarship and Awards Ceremony beginning with a reception from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM, followed by dinner. Seventeen members of law enforcement and the community will be recognized for their accomplishments and efforts towards building stronger bridges between police and community. Among the honors to be presented will be the Law Enforcement Leadership Award, Community Leadership Award, Community Policing Award, Community Service Award, President’s Award, Lifetime Achievement Award and the Children of Courage Scholarship Award. Tickets for this event are priced at $100.00 per person or $900.00 per table of ten, and are available from members of either the Yonkers Guardians Association or Westchester-Rockland Guardians Association.
For all events, persons attending must either be vaccinated or wear face coverings.
